Pictures of Thirty

I'll admit thirty isn't exactly old so I won't wear black and pretend to be in mourning, but it isn't young anymore either. I'm being forced to grow up. So in a youngest child's attempt to bid farewell to youth and embrace middle age I'm taking an artistic approach through a daily photograph in the hopes that it'll help me appreciate each day of this unstoppable milestone as it settles over me instead of resent it. I hope it works...fingers crossed.

The morning breaks…on an extremely uneventful boring day (taken from my spare room window, I should run a bed and breakfast with views like this)

THE END

The daily blog picture posting ended on May 31. The experiment worked, it was a fantastic year and it has all been documented, but it can't go on forever. Or can it? It was so much fun I'm still making the occasional post now and then.

I'm not a photographer...

I'm not a photographer...
I make no claims that these pictures are good, I don't have a fancy camera, but I like taking them just the same. They're just pictures of my day.

If this isn't enough

Hervey Allen

The only time you really live fully is from thirty to sixty. The young are slaves to dreams; the old servants of regrets. Only the middle-aged have all their five senses in the keeping of their wits.

Charles Frazier

At such a moment of conclusion later in life, I would inevitably have felt a sense of failure, an overwhelming gloom in the knowledge that days such as those three were done and gone forever. But back then I simply exulted in the false but glorious knowledge that life would be exactly this way from now on. I wasn't different from anybody else. I took youth as a special pack with God.

Thirteen Moons

Avett Brothers

I wanna grow old, without the pain. Give my body back to the earth and not complain

Elbert Hubbard

At thirty, youth, with all it palliates and excuses, is gone forever. The time for mere fooling is past; the young avoid you, or else look up to you and tempt you to grow reminiscent. You are a man and must give an account of yourself.

Edward Abbey

All babies look identical; boys and adolescents resemble one another, in their bewildered hopefulness, more than they differ. But eventually the inner nature of the man appears on his outer surface. Character begins to shine through. Year by year a man reveals himself, while those with nothing to show, show it. Differentiation becomes individuation. By the age of forty, if not before, a man is responsible for his face.

Brandi Carlile

All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I've been
And how I got to where I am

Edward Abbey

The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.

Joseph Heller

He had decided to live forever, or die in the attempt.
Catch 22

Author Unknown

Do not resent growing old. Many are denied the privilege.

William Makepeace Thackeray

Do not be in a hurry to succeed. What would you have to live for afterwards? Better make the horizon your goal; it will always be ahead of you.

Robert Frost

Time and Tide wait for no man, but time always stands still for a woman of thirty.
